The Companies House database has over 3 million registered limited businesses but a vast number of these companies are shelved or dormant so it would be a waste of resource and budget to market to these organisations on the chance that they may be trading. - Companies House's companies list only holds limited businesses and it is unlikely you will be able to tell if a company is trading unless a set of accounts appears against their record.
- If you limit your marketing to just limited companies then you will be missing around 80% of the businesses that are trading in the UK. Independents, Sole Traders and Partnerships are unlikely to be on Companies House's companies list unless they have set themselves up as a limited company.
- Until recently, Solicitor firms could not set themselves up as a limited company as Solicitors had to be personally accountable when representing their clients and therefore they couldn't hide behind the protection that a limited company offers.
